    »SøA« IRC channel : #soaclan

    Post  »SøA«Centur1øn on Wed 29 Nov 2006 - 23:50

    Hi everybody.
Our clan finally got his own IRC channel.
Feel free to visit #soaclan @ Quakenet.
IRC is very handy and I hope this channel will be a success.
I would like to thank NUUSK who created the channel and Chan who was very helpful.

For people who haven't IRC installed yet, following there is a tutorial from Chan that you also can find here : http://6p.foren-city.de/topic,11,-setting-up-mirc.html.

    IRC Installation :

There are many ways to communicate over the IRC network, this is just one way to do so.

    1. Download the latest and full versions of mIRC & nonamescript from: http://www.nnscript.de/index.php?section=download
    2. Install mIRC without launching after the installation.
    3. Install nonamescript to the same location as mIRC.
    4. Select Yes when asked to download the latest servers.ini.
    5. Click run nonamescript and finish.
    6. Close the nonamescript window and go to File -> Connect.
    7. Enter every box, the information doesn’t have to be correct just realistic, and you will need a unique nickname as shown.

    8. Under the servers tab, select quakenet and a server located close to you.

    9. Under the options tab select “Connect on startup”.
    10. Select OK, close the program and re-open it. mIRC should successfully login to quakenet.
    11. To change your nickname use the “/nick” command.
    12. To join a channel type “/join #channelname”, in this case, “/join #ut2k3”.
    13. You may wish to add the channel to favourites and select “Join on connect” for each time you connect to the IRC network.

Personal messaging – In the channel window, double click some1s name to open the query window, this is a 1to1 chat with that person. You can see the active query in the tree diagram to the left of the screen. Setting beep notifications when some1 queries you can be helpful too. Below you can see how to set event beep for query/chat, beep on: query message, and flash on: query message. This helps others get your attention easily.

Highlighting – type the first letter of someone’s nick even if its punctuation, followed by the tab key to display the rest and press enter. Alternatively you can type their whole nickname out exactly and press enter, your message which appear in bright red on their screen because by typing their nick you have highlighted them. You can also set in options so that when you are highlighted you hear a beep through your speakers. This is a good way of getting some1s attention. Slapping some1 is also a form of highlighting.

Getting authed – This allows you to be given automatic voice & op, allows you to create your own channel with bots such as “L”, and to talk to users who will automatically ignore unauthed users. It also allows you to hide your ip address from others.
    1. Firstly make sure you have a nickname which is likely to be unique and free from any punctuation. Use the command “/nick” to change.
    2. With mIRC open type “/msg q hello youruser@hotmail.com youruser@hotmail.com” (replacing that email address with your own).
    3. If it worked you will have an email from “Q”, which often finds its way into spam filters. If it didn’t work, then your current nickname is probably already registered.
    4. Follow the email instructions, at the end you should have successfully authed with quakenet. Once successfully authed enter your username and password into the nonamescript setup window and select auth automatically:

Try to come and stay more often on #soaclan please. There are only few people on it and soon we are organizing a tournament, so I guess more people will visit the channel but they won't stay on it if they see it's empty.
    Thank you guys.
